Joe Keery took a moment to shut down the rumors that he and Taylor Swift were collaborating on music after being seen at Electric Lady recording studio in New York City the same day. That’s not to say he wouldn’t take the opportunity if it came his way, however.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Stranger Things star admitted the day those rumors began was “confusing” for him.

“Well, that was a very confusing day because I was just in there with John [Rooney, a sound engineer at the recording studio], minding my own business, not doing anything, and then I walked out the door, and it was like a thousand people were standing out there,” he told the late night host. “People looked at me expecting Taylor and were like, ‘Who’s this guy?’”

Keery releases music through his stage name, Djo, but before his solo career, he was part of the psychedelic rock band Post Animal. When Fallon asked about the rumor that he was collaborating with Swift, the Fargo actor admitted that was not the case — at this moment.

“Maybe [the rumor] would generate something,” he said, coyly. “Maybe that experience generated something in the universe, but I don’t know.”

The late night host then asked the Free Guy star what fans could expect from the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, Netflix’s hit sci-fi series in which Keery portrays fan-favorite character Steve Harrington.

The actor revealed he has seen a few scripts but can’t really say anything other than that. Fallon then pointed out to Keery that his character gets beat up a lot and asked if that is something that fans will likely continue to see.

“You know, we don’t know,” Keery said. “Odds are, I would say,” gesturing that it was likely.

Stranger Things season five is set to begin production in early 2024.
