The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have narrowed down their list of contestants for 91st Oscars and announced the list of semi-finalists in nine separate categories. The organization took to Twitter and released the final list which includes Guneet Monga’s film ‘Period. End of Sentence’ that highlights Indian women’s fights against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation. Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment which has backed films like The Lunchbox and Masaan has co-produced the documentary. The short film which is around 26 minutes long is about girls and women in Harpur, North India, and their experience of installing a pad machine in their village. Nominations for the 91st Oscars will be announced on January 22, 2019, a month ahead of the Oscars ceremony, which is slated to be held on February 24, 2019.
