Months before Apple releases its Vision Pro headset in early 2024, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has debuted its new Meta Quest 3 virtual reality (VR) headset today.

Announced during the company’s Meta Connect event in September, the device is now available atAmazon, Best Buy, Target and other online retailers. The Meta Quest 3 comes with a VR headset, two Touch Plus controllers and a free digital copy of the action VR role-playing game (RPG) Asgard’s Wrath 2, which usually retails for $60. (Got a Meta Quest 2? Accessories are currently on sale during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days including carrying cases, comfortable head straps and more.)

It’s equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip (a step up from the Quest 2’s Gen 1), resulting in more detailed, smoother graphics than its predecessor, while the Infinite Display (two 4K+ LCD displays, one for each eye) inside of the headset offers stunning visuals. Per the brand, the new headset’s speakers are also 40 percent louder, offering 3D audio that’s clear and rich with thumping bass.

In addition, its newly-designed Touch Plus controllers provide even more precise navigation and tracking and better haptic feedback compared to the previous model, resulting in immersive and authentic sensations during experiences. (The new controllers also no longer have rings.) The Quest 3 also offers a controller-free experience with the Direct Touch feature that follows your hand gestures, while the headset’s slimmer design is more comfortable to wear, according to Meta.

Regularly priced at $500, the Meta Quest 3 comes in a 128GB model and features a mixed-reality experience that blends virtual images into your actual surroundings. For additional storage, the Meta Quest 3 comes in a 512GB model at $650. It has the same features as the headset listed above, but also comes with a bonus six-month Meta Quest+ subscription — which is valued at $48 ($8 per month).

The service includes two curated VR titles per month (12 in total) that can range from gaming, entertainment, wellness, fitness, social and more. Meanwhile, you can pick and choose more than 500 experience apps in the Meta Quest library — including YouTube, Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Video, among others.

In fact, NBCUniversal inked a deal with Meta to bring Peacock to the Meta Quest line of VR headsets. This includes everything the streaming service has to offer, such as Sunday Night Football, The Office, Poker Face, Yellowstone, Suits, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, Astroid City, Fast X and much, much more. It even has horror movies and TV shows from Blumhouse Productions and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions too — just in time for Halloween.

Meta acquired Oculus, the original maker of the Quest VR headset, in 2014.
