Amazon is getting fashionable — and spectacled — thanks to a new collaboration with premium Italian eyewear company Carrera. The partnership features two pairs of chic sunglasses with Amazon’s Alexa assistant built-into the frames, allowing wearers to ask for up-to-the-minute news updates, weather reports, get notifications and get hands-free smartphone controls with just the sound of their voice.

The Carrera Smart Glasses with Alexa come in two colorways — black and gold cruiser (with the eyewear brand’s iconic “C” logo in the center of the frames) and black sprinter, which is a classic black-on-black design. The smart frames are also available in two configurations: blue light filtering (for indoor use) and sunglasses.
Starting at $389.99, the Carrera Smart Glasses also double as a music listening device, with an “open-ear audio” design. Get high-quality audio with direct sound to your ears that’s clear and rich yet discreet. This means you can enjoy your favorite music and podcasts without disturbing anyone around you.
Along with the Alexa voice assistant features, Amazon says these smart glasses have improved privacy settings. You also get a long battery life of up to 14 hours per charge.
Each pair is made from handcrafted Italian acetate textiles and precision custom spring hinges, with gold or silver finishes — depending on which pair you pick up. In other words: even if the battery runs out and you can’t use the audio or Alexa features, you’ll still have a sophisticated pair of shades that you can wear all day long.

“Choosing the right eyewear is about so much more than just finding a pair of glasses to help with vision correction — it’s a reflection of your unique personality and style,” says Jean Wang, director of smart eyewear at Amazon, in a press release. “With smart eyewear, it’s important for customers to feel and look great with the world’s best personal AI that instantly connects, entertains and helps you be even more productive. That’s why we’ve completely redesigned our Echo Frames and added two styles by Carrera, providing customers with more options at the intersection of fashion and technology.”
The Carrera Smart Glasses with Alexa aren’t available for purchase yet, but you can pre-order a pair now and the retailer will send you a notification when they’re ready for you. Hopefully, they’ll be released by Prime Day in October.
Meanwhile, Amazon has also unveiled the third generation of their Echo Frames smart eyeglasses. The frames are sleek, fashionable and come in new styles that also have Alexa built-in.
In addition, the new Echo Frames — which start at $299.99 — have the same features as Carrera Smart Glasses, but with more classic silhouettes like a black rectangle, black square, blue round, brown cat eye and gray rectangle. Amazon is offering pairs in blue light filtering and prescription configurations. Now you can wear them for work, play and everything in-between.
