c*mgirl8 Detail New EP ‘phantasea pharm’

c*mgirl8 will release new EP ‘phantasea pharm’ on August 18th.

The band have released two stellar EPs, with ‘c*mgirl8’ and ‘RIPc*mgirl8’ turning them into cult names. Last year saw the New York band drop their anthem ‘dumb bitch’ before playing a short string of packed out European shows.

Now signed to illustrious independent label 4AD, c*mgirl8 will release an all-new EP this summer. Out on August 18th, ‘phantasea pharm’ was seemingly born out of an obsession with Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Old McDonald’, something that paid homage to with a surreal display of dress-up at a show in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Taken to the next level, the themes permeate the incoming EP. New blaster ‘gothgirl1’ is online now, and its darkly seductive atmosphere has a gothic streak, shot through with a kind of post-Millennial irony.

Constructed alongside Nick Launay (Kate Bush, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Slits) during the band’s stay at Barbizon, “a magical artist hotel nestled on the edge of a mushroom forest,” it seems to represent a point of departure – a wardrobe to another world…
