The actor stars in his first ever fragrance campaign.
Following weeks of internet speculation, Chanel has announced that Timothée Chalamet will be the face of the iconic menswear fragrance Bleu de Chanel. This marks a colossal move for both Chanel and Chalamet, as the 27-year-old takes on his first-ever role as a brand ambassador.
Chalamet for Bleu de Chanel feels intuitive given the young actor’s meteoric rise, it comes mere months after actress Whitney Peak was announced as the face of Coco Mademoiselle, and as Chanel moves into a more youthful era. A significant choice for the brand, Chalamet follows in the footsteps of French actor turned model Gaspard Ulliel, who served as Karl Lagerfeld’s muse and Chanel’s first-ever male ambassador in 2010. Ulliel, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 37, starred in multiple iterations of Bleu de Chanel campaigns over a 12-year span, working with directors Martin Scorsese and Steve McQueen. The role positions Chalamet alongside the likes of Ulliel and fellow Chanel fragrance ambassador Brad Pitt, further cementing his position as a modern icon.
A now legendary fragrance, Bleu de Chanel is famed for its warming heart notes of ginger, Iso E Super, nutmeg and jasmine, above a base of labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, incense, cedar and white musk. The cologne is then adorned with bright top notes of lemon, mint, pink pepper, grapefruit and citrus.
The new Bleu de Chanel advertising campaign starring Timothée Chalamet has been shot by Mario Sorrenti and will be released in June of this year, followed by an accompanying film directed by Martin Scorsese in Autumn.
