Saint Laurent has unveiled a new production company, as the Parisian fashion house delves further into the world of film.
The latest innovation from Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent Productions will tie in with the creative director’s sartorial vision for the brand, as he aims to push the brand into the cinematic future of fashion. As expected, the clothes are set to take centre stage, with each project featuring costumes by Vaccarello for Saint Laurent. “I want to work with and provide a space for all the great film talents who have inspired me over the years,” Vaccarello commented.
The company’s first project, ‘Strange Way of Life’, will star both Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as co-leads of the neo-western short film. Saint Laurent has enlisted Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar to direct the project, whose 2021 feature film ‘Parallel Mothers’ earned Penelope Cruz a Best Leading Actress Nomination at the 94th Academy Awards.
The project is a natural continuation for Pascal, whose previous roles include a space cowboy in ‘The Mandalorian’ and a jagged monster fighter in ‘The Last of Us’. ‘Strange Way of Life’ will see Pascal play opposite Ethan Hawke in the gunslinger romance.
The film will premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival next month.
Saint Laurent Productions already has projects with David Cronenberg, champion of the body horror genre, and film festival favourite Paolo Sorrentino in the works.
