Black Country, New Road have shared a short film featuring performances from London’s Bush Hall.
The band’s second album ‘Ants From Up There’ received rapturous acclaim on its 2022 release, with Clash writer James Kilkenny commenting:
More melodic and anthemic than ever, ‘Ants From Up There’ captures Black Country, New Road at a critically transformative juncture, creative juices well and truly pumping; post-punk landfill an impossibility. Overall, the ensemble sound incredibly close to the freewheeling jams fans are accustomed to; in short, they meet the sky-high potential teased on their first record.
Following initial shows, Isaac Wood confirmed his departure from the line-up, forcing Black Country, New Road to evolve once more. Continuing to write, the band booked three shows at London’s beautiful Bush Hall, designed to air fresh material.
“We didn’t want to do a studio album,” says Black Country, New Road pianist May Kershaw. “We wrote the new tracks specifically to perform live, so we thought it might be a nice idea to put out a performance.”
A camera crew were in attendance, with Greg Barnes directing a subsequent short film based on those performances. John Parish helped with the final audio mix, with the film gaining its online premiere a few moments ago.
A special screening will take place this evening – February 20th – at he Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
Catch Black Country, New Road on tour in the UK this May.
