You might already know METTE – or at least, you’ll recognise her. Grabbing a breakout role as the star of the N.E.R.D. and Rihanna ‘Lemon’ video, she’s already a cult figure in pop culture.

New single ‘Mama’s Eyes’ however, illustrates the true depths of her artistry. A real triple threat, METTE is perhaps best known as a dancer, and her involvement with visual arts – this song, though, flips the script entirely.

A soulful pop burner that nods to vintage R&B while grappling with future-facing techniques, ‘Mama’s Eyes’ is a glorious statement of free-flowing creativity. A song with deep roots in London’s musical heritage, it also finds her gazing to America – the voice is someone separated from their family by an ocean, and a pandemic.

Produced by Barney Lister, it’s a stunning piece of songwriting. METTE comments…

“I was going through something when lockdown hit. I hadn’t seen my mom for 18 months, and the news coming from America felt particularly panicked. I missed my mom, I felt out of pocket. I wanted to see my mama’s eyes. I have her eyes, I feel mirrored by her, I wanted her strength.”
