The entertainment world has lost another star.
Irene Cara, award-winning singer of popular ‘80s songs “Fame” and “Flashdance…What a Feeling” has sadly passed away. An official statement was posted to her official Twitter account this Saturday morning on behalf of her publicist. It read,
“It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara,” the statement said. “The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter, and producer passed away in her Florida home. Her cause of death is currently unknown and will be released when information is available. Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief. She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films. Funeral services are pending and a memorial for her fans will be planned at a future date,” the statement concluded.

Cara got her rise to fame first when she was cast in the 1980 musical Fame, which she sang the title track for and starred in as Coco Hernandez. Her amazing performance in Fame earned her two Grammy nominations for best new artist and best pop vocal performance, female, at the 23rd annual Grammy Awards back in 1981.
The song “Flashdance… What A Feeling” which she sang and co-wrote earned the star two wins at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards in 1984. She toke home the awards for best pop vocal performance, female, and best album of original score written for a motion picture or a television special. She also scored an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1983 Oscars.
Aside from her musical talent, Cara starred in multiple Broadway and regional productions, including “Ain’t Misbehavin” and the Obie Award-winning musical “The Me Nobody Knows.” In addition to that, she appeared on major TV networks with appearances on “The Original Amateur Hour,” “The Ed Sullivan Show” and “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.”
According to her reps, Cara is survived by multiple family members, who have “requested privacy as they process their grief” at this time.

The beautiful Irene Cara has sadly passed away at the age of 63.
Irene was an incredibly talented trailblazer, a singer, dancer, self taught pianist, the list goes on.
