Miles Folsom was just 16-years old when he was arrested for pistol whipped a convicted drug dealer/acquaintance who was out on parole. Miles claimed it was revenge for the acquaintance stealing his iPod (the two knew each other; the man was treated and released from the hospital). After too many trips in front of a juvenile judge for previous juvenile offenses, the judge had had enough: she sentenced the teen to 36-years in prison for battery, robbery and criminal confinement — one of the longest sentences we’ve ever seen for a juvenile defendant that didn’t involve murder or homicide.

Once locked away behind bars, Miles made it his mission to better himself in every way possible. After a rocky first year inside, he committed himself to gaining his education, participating in every program offered by the prison, and mentoring new kids arriving at the prison as they prepared for their own time behind bars. This includes his mentorship of Colt Lundy (who you also see on this channel), as the two became cellmates and ultimately, best friends during the course of their incarceration. They remain like brothers today.

For the past 11 years, Calamari Productions has been following Miles’ story (along with Colt’s). We’ve followed him during years of legal battles for sentence modification, during the highs and lows of growing up behind prison walls, and throughout his extraordinary journey to gain his college degree while incarcerated. Our cameras have literally watched him grow up behind bars.

In this first interview with Miles during the first year of his incarceration, he discusses the issues that led to a life of chaos as a young kid — alcohol, bad influences and a lack of direction. Filmed over 10 years ago, we bring you this interview in the first of what will be an extraordinary timeline of events in his case, as we watch him transform into the adult he is today. You simply will not believe the Miles in this interview is the same Miles we will eventually show you in future videos on this channel! His resilience, determination and achievements are truly, truly inspirational and astounding!!

(note: please ignore the typo in his opening video title page)
